Buying used go-carts is one way to invest in your hobby without breaking the bank. While you may want the best supplies money can buy a brand new cart may be out of your price range. As far as carting goes buying used equipment can be a good way to make sure you can still enjoy your new pastime.

Some go-carting enthusiasts prefer to build their carts component by component. However buying used go-carts is easy and you can still get a top-quality cart if you know where to look and are cautious when you buy. Used go-carts and second hand parts are considerably cheaper than new ones. This means you can get more for your money and still have fun.

When shopping for used go-carts it's a little like trying to buy a second hand car. Don't worry too much about the exterior of the cart, though. With a small cash and time investment minor exterior dents and scratches can be easily repaired. Far more important is the overall performance of the cart. If you are not very clued up about mechanics it's a good idea to take somebody that is, with you.

When you examine used go-carts pay specific attention to the axels and connected components. These are important when driving the cart. Stay away from any carts that have a rust problem. Rust can cause any of the engine and other components to function poorly or seize. Try spinning the wheels and listen for any noise that may be evidence of bent components and loose bearings.

The brakes on any used go-cart should always be checked. The brakes should work quickly and accurately. Test for leaks in brake fluid and make sure that when you push the brake pedal it reacts promptly. Take the cart out for a test drive but make sure you wear the appropriate safety gear when you do. The cart may not be safe! Examine the undercarriage on used go-carts for major scratches or tears.

What about the price? Used go-carts should be valued similarly to other carts in the same condition. Measure the price against a new cart with the same or similar features. Used go-carts should not sell for more than around half the price of a new cart with the same features. If the cart is almost new then it may be a bit more expensive.
